Welcome to our 2010 Travel Web site. Our travel plans for July, August and part of September are fairly loose and will include some new territory we have not visited in the past. It's been a mild summer in Austin this year but when the temps hit 95+ we decided to head for cooler climes. Our first stop is going to be central Colorado to get aclimated to the altitude and then do some warm-up hikes. From there we hope to explore the Wind River Range in Wyoming around Pinedale, hike the Alaska Basin area outside of Driggs, ID on the backside of the Teton mountains, visit friends in Idaho and Montana, explore the Stanley area in Idaho, and then head back and play tourist at Little Bighorn, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Custer, SD, and The Badlands before heading back to Lubbock to see Coach Tuberville's baptism with the Texas Tech - Texas football game (go Tech). We'll be in and out of connectivity so our updates will be somewhat sporadic but I'll be sending emails out when we do update. Best regards to everyone and we hope you enjoy our explorations as much as we enjoy sharing them.

Our route took us from Spicewood to Lubbock where we spent the night north of town. Then we went to Latham State Park outside of Walsenburg, CO where we hit some cooler temperatures but not enough to turn the AC off. The next day we got to a campground north of Creede, CO where it was in the high 70's and low 40's .. just perfect. Here is a picture of downtown Creede .. an old mining town that is becoming a tourist trap .. but we had a good time touring around.
A warm-up hike for us along Clear Creek .. just below the campground.
A major hike up to a pass on the Continental devide above Rio Grande Reservoir.
Picture of the trail going up across some meadows ... we heard there was a moose with her calf but didn't see them. We did scare up a couple of mule deer.
Some good friends from Austin ... Latrell and Jean Bellard have started RV'n and were on their way to Idaho, knew where we planning to be and tracked us down.
Latrell, on the trail coming back from the Continental Divide.
Latrell and Jean at the end of an 11 mile hike ... it was a little more than we bargained for ... just too long for a first major climb.
Hummingbird pictures ... one of the great things about camping is when we put the feeder out. The one above is a black chinned variety. The ones to the right and below are Rufous Hummingbirds ... very aggressive and territorial. They would guard the feeder and keep any other hummer from taking any food.
Our next stop will be in the Wind River Range area outside of Pinedale, Wyoming. Probably will have updates on that part of the trip around the first part of August.
