From the beautiful backside of the Teton's we drove a short way up the road to visit one of Cindy's "stitching pals" (my term .. a group of women who do needlepoint in Austin .. actually it's very detailed work and I'm sure they also solve many of the world's problems when they meet!). Gay and Larry Wood were wonderful hosts and showed us around the area of the Henry's Fork River north of Ashton, Idaho. Both of them are Texas Tech grads and we had wonderful time sharing stories on their back deck overlooking the river. When we get back to Austin, we look forward to sharing some more good times with them over dinner and drinks or on the lake. Larry & Gay, thanks for being such gracious hosts!!!!
Idaho
Gay and Larry Wood on their deck overlooking the Henry's Fork River. Cindy & I had a wonderful visit here proving once again that the very best times on our trips are with friends.
Mesa Falls, just down the road from the Wood's house .. this must be a well kept secret. What's not a secret is the good trout fishing that seemingly everyone does up in this area.
So we did find a great spot to camp right on Stanley Lake, about 5 miles outside of Stanley and a little less crowded, this was a popular area also.
Then we moved to Stanley, Idaho in the middle of the Sawtooth Range. This was the view from our first campground site, while we were looking for a place to stay that was quieter. At this spot we also ran in Latrell and Jean Bellard again, for the 3rd time!
And this is what she was looking at which was the main view out our back window from the camp site. It was a small lake but the fishing appeared to be very good. Some of the Idaho people would actually swim and ski in this water ... reminded us of the Canadians!
Cindy enjoying a glass of vino late one evening on the lake.
Our last hike in the Stanley area and my camera stopped working just after I took this picture. Too bad because the scenery was incredible as we got further up the valley to a ridge that overlooked the Sawtooth Range. We'll be back for more on another trip but at a different time to avoid the crowds.
A hike up to Lady Lace Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. This was a nice hike but didn't get close enough to the falls. Dodged rain most of the hike but not bad.
The ever changing views of the mountains. We had a hailstorm one afternoon and fog most mornings. Low temperatures were usually in the high 30's but warmed up fast.
Bighorn sheep off the road outside of North Fork. These are juveniles.
Gay Wood took this picture of us at Mesa Falls.
